Training:
All CASA volunteers are
required to complete 30 hours of pre-service training on multiple
topics including juvenile court process, confidentiality, child development,
effects of child abuse and neglect, permanency planning, community
resources, and cultural diversity.
While serving as a
volunteer, a volunteer is also required to complete 12 hours of
in-service training each year. This in-service training can be
completed by attending monthly volunteer meetings held by the CASA
office.
Cases:
As
a CASA volunteer, you will serve as the eyes and ears of the judge.
A volunteer will gather relevant information about the case, by
talking with the child, the parents, foster parents, teachers,
doctors, and anyone else who has information on the case. They
will become the voice of the child in court, looking out for the best
interest of the child. A CASA volunteer stays with each case
until the child is placed in a safe, permanent home with hope of a
positive future.
